movie week

Watched 3 movies in this past week. Two at Cathay@AMKhub and one on DVD.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Almost 3 hours long! But wonderfully as the film is, it didn't feel that long. I remember checking my watch more often when I watched that stupid Zohan rubbish, which was not even 2 hours short, but already too long.
I read the book before I watched the show. Basically, there is no need to compare. No basis to. The movie adapted the book so loosely that it would be unfair, on any grounds, to compare the two. I will say, both are good. And as far as the movie was concerned, it was very good. Deserving Oscars nominations, for sure.
Grace and loneliness. Those are evident themes. Loveliness. That's evident from Cate Blanchett. It's just very 'not fair lor' that this woman can look so darn pretty and elvishly at any age. Bleah!

Valkyrie
Tensed 2 hours. Quick-paced movie that didn't let my brain rest for awhile at all. All the time, retrieving the bits and pieces of what I've learnt about WWII and Hitler's Nazi Germany in secondary school. Thankfully, it was in English. If I had to read English subtitles, I'm sure I would have been more lost in translation than I was lost in history.
Hitler is such an hateful person. But, can never discredit his guts and ambitions.

Big Fish
There's a time when a man needs to fight and there's a time when he needs to accept that his destiny's lost, the ship has sailed and that only a fool will continue. The truth is... I've always been a fool.
I like the movie a lot! It's like adult fantasy of the sexually-unrelated kind. I love stories. And this movie is all about stories. Tall tales, short tales, likeable tales. It's also very romantic, of the old school kind. Sentimental but not mushy. Romantic but not cheesy. Subtly fable-like. Simply, amazing.
